The Empire State Building shined its world-famous tower lights in green to honor City Harvest's "Share Lunch, Fight Hunger" Campaign on May 7.
Earlier in the day, Michelin Star chef Vikas Khanna visited the "World's Most Famous Building" to flip the famous switch in a special lighting ceremony. The "MasterChef India" star toured ESB's Observatory Experience after the ceremony, and stopped for photos throughout its immersive exhibits on the way up to the iconic 86th and 102nd Floor Observatories.
City Harvest puts surplus food to good use in a sustainable way as they deliver more than 1.2 million free meals a month to over 375 charities which include children's programs, food banks, and many more. Since City Harvest started the food rescue movement in 1982, the organization has rescued and delivered more than one billion pounds of free, nutritious food that would have otherwise gone to waste for millions of New Yorkers in need.
Spearheaded by City Harvest, "Share Lunch, Fight Hunger" brings thousands of New Yorkers together each spring to raise awareness and funds to help the organization rescue and deliver nutritious food for children and families affected by food insecurity during the summer months.
