There would be no “Daredevil: Born Again” without the franchise’s loyal fans.
Stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio visited the Empire State Building to celebrate the return of the Marvel show with a lighting ceremony and tour of the iconic Observatory Experience.
The duo – who play Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk in the hit series – sat down to discuss their favorite movies in the Marvel Universe, their time during the show’s hiatus, and how the fans are largely responsible for its return.
“[The #SaveDaredevil Campaign] is a big part of why we’re back – because the fans made sure their voices were heard, and Marvel listened,” said Cox in the interview.
The fan-driven #SaveDaredevil movement united tens of thousands of supporters through petitions, fundraising, and hashtags after the initial series was canceled in 2018, with hopes that it would return in its beloved, gritty fashion. Though the show will feature new plotlines for its characters, Cox and D’Onofrio assured fans that the signature dark and moody tone will match what they are used to.
“I consider this a fourth season, even though it’s the first season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ – we have all the same crew back,” said D’Onofrio. “The journey that we’re on this time is different than the other journey, but it’s on the same canvas.”
Though the New York City-based series will continue with its historical convention for brutal action scenes and a Murdock-Fisk rivalry, Cox and D’Onofrio said that fans can expect to see their characters interact in a way that they never have before.
“There’s a scene that Vincent and I have together at a diner where we sit across from one another and have a conversation. Very rarely, when these two characters are in the same room, do they sit and chat,” Cox said. “It was a great idea from the writers to kick off the show that way. If you like these characters, whether from the comic books or the show, it’s a pretty iconic moment. That’s one of the things I’m most excited for fans to see.”

The stars confirmed another iconic character would return to the series – the Empire State Building. The landmark icon has made several appearances throughout the “Daredevil” franchise, first on the comic book's cover.
“When you [film] exteriors in New York, the [director of photography] is inevitably always trying to find the Empire State Building to make sure it’s in the lens somehow,” said Cox.
“Daredevil: Born Again” airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on Disney+.
