Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver Lewis Hamilton visited ESB to kick off the two-day festivities in partnership with WhatsApp. Festivities began with a lighting ceremony in which Hamilton switched the famous light switch, making the building shine Green. Then a dynamic light show appeared on the Southside facade featuring an emoji car zipping through lower Manhattan. Hamilton then delighted fans by driving down Fifth Avenue in a 2021 Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E PERFORMANCE. 

  1. Hamilton was offered a role in "Top Gun: Maverick" but turned it down due to his busy F1 schedule.
  2. Hamilton's number on his F1 car, "44", is the same karting number he had at eight years old. It was also seen on his father's license plate number. 
  3. He became the fourth F1 driver to receive knighthood in 2021. He was bestowed this honor by Prince Charles.
